Read2Succeed is a literacy based program for Grades 1-4 who need to hone their reading skills. Through leveled reading books, homework help and interactive literacy games on the computer, children will be able to improve their reading and comprehension skills. By working 1-on-1 with volunteer tutors, they will be able to better apply their learned skills and in turn positively impact their grades. The program runs every Tuesday from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough and has 14 children currently enrolled in it.
Math2Succeed is a numeracy-based program for Grades 1-4 who are struggling in Math. Through practice sheets, homework help and interactive games on the computer, children will be able to understand mathematical concepts that they consider challenging in school. By working 1-on-1 with volunteer tutors, they will be able to better apply their learned skills and in turn positively impact their grades. The program runs every Thursday from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough and has 14 children currently enrolled in it.
ROOTS is an extracurricular academic enrichment program that uses creative, holistic programming to strengthen participants’ educational fundamentals helping them reach their academic potential. Led by a licensed teachers and experienced instructors, the program provides an encouraging, affirmative space for students to learn and grow. Currently the program is open to students from grades 2 – 6 who wish to improve their academic performance. Curriculum is aligned with both student interests (i.e. space exploration, game design, and social justice) and the Ontario curriculum.
Giant Tiger, Giant Steps
Giant Tiger Giant Steps offers opportunities for young people in grades 7 & 8 to complete homework and receive tutoring in a supportive environment. By engaging kids at an earlier age, we hope prepare them for the rigors of high school, and ensure they are well-positioned to meet academic demands. Giant Steps also encourages young people to build relationships with Club staff, their peers, and mentors, and develop communication and leadership skills.
Raise the Grade
RTG is an after school program that allows youth to explore their personal interests, receive homework support, connect with mentors, increase their digital literacy and plan for post-secondary education. Youth will explore, set, and achieve their academic and career goals, as well as make use of technology and electronic resources in the Tech Centre. Youth will be paired with a mentor for the school year who will provide them with academic support for a minimum of an hour a week. The remainder of the time will be spent with academic supports in the Tech Centre working on homework and attending organized programs that offer life skills.
