After School Program Staff (Part – Time)

The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual who is committed to the principles and practices of the Boys & Girls Club. We are currently recruiting for a highly skilled, dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team of multi-disciplinary staff with a real opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Children & Early Teens Services

Major Responsibilities:

  • Good understanding of working with children and youth, as well as implementing programs
  • Supervision of children in the program and ensuring their safety
  • Meeting children at designated school bus stops and leading them safely to program area
  • Managing behavioral issues and group conflicts between the children
  • Organizing and leading small group games and physical activities for the children
  • Assist Program Facilitators in the preparation and facilitation of programs/activities and in the upkeep of program areas
  • Develop professional relationship with co-workers, participants, parents & school staff and provide homework assistance for those children who require it
  •  Participate in active sports/games with the children, lift, move tables/chairs, and program equipment ensuring they are clean and stored appropriately at the end of each day
  •  Ensure that daily snacks are prepared and served to the children.
  • Translate the HIGH FIVE Principles into actions that impact directly on healthy development of children. Leaders must be prepared and capable of enduring the HIGH FIVE Design Guidelines and Principles. They need to be a caring adult that allows for structured and unstructured play and provides opportunities for children to have a voice and participate fully

Successful Candidates will have:

  • Is a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators or Ontario College of Teachers
  • Diploma or degree in any of related field (child and youth care, recreation and leisure services, social work, psychology, sociology, kinesiology)
  • Experience working with children aged 6-12 years old.
  • Punctual; excellent time management skills
  • Self-starter with good problem solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Enthusiastic, energetic with creative program planning skills.
  • Ability to creatively plan, facilitate and instruct participants in a specialty program.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of leadership, programming and child/youth management skills.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • HIGH FIVE PHCD Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the contract)

Successful Candidates will be required to provide the Following:

  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • First Aid/Level C CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the contract)
  • HIGH FIVE PHCD Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the contract)
  • To obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check upon employment offer
